Prevalence of HIV
• 1.4 million people living with HIV (PLHIV).
• The prevalence of PLHIV remained 5.0 percent from that reported in 2011-12 THMIS
• The highest HIV prevalence is 12% among female aged 45-49 compare to 8.4% of males aged 40-44.
• Prevalence among 15 to 24 years old is 1.4 percent (2.1 percent among females and 0.6 percent among males).
• The difference in HIV prevalence between men and women is significant among younger adults. Women aged 15 to 19, 20 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34 and 35 to 39 all having more than double that of males in the same age groups.

Viral load suppression
• Prevalence of viral load suppression (VLS) among HIV-positive adults ages 15 to 64 years is 52.0 percent.
• Viral load suppression among HIV-positive adults is strongest among older people, with 64.4% of females between 55 and 64 age group and 61.5% of males between 55 and 64 age group.
• The gender gap in viral load suppression among younger adults is greater, with 50.5 percent of women aged 25 to 34 and 25.7 percent of men in the same age group.
• Geographically, VLS varies across regions, from 66.0% in Kagera and 66.8% in Kilimanjaro to 40.1% in Shinyanga and 29.1% in Arusha.
Toward achieving 90-90-90 goals among people living with HIV
• Only 52.2 percent of PLHIV ages 15 to 64 years (55.9 percent of HIV-positive females and 45.3 percent of HIV positive males) know their HIV versus the required target of 90% by 2020.
• 90.9 percent of PLHIV adults who know their status are self-reported current use of ART (92.9% of HIV-positive females and 86.1% of HIV-positive males).
• 87.7 percent among PLHIV ages 15 to 64 years who self-report current use of ART (89.2 percent of HIV-positive females and 84.0 percent of HIV-positive males) are virally suppressed.
